What is Wick ‘N Ore?

We are an independent restaurant locally owned and operated in Vernon Hills, Illinois. So, much like any rare and precious stone, we may share similarities to others, but we are one of one. Our name is a manifestation of our origins and a nod to all in which we would care to embody. We are a reimagining of what some in the area may know as The Claim Company. As two family owned businesses you could think of us as sharing grandparents, but having different parents; we are akin to cousins, similar, but ultimately two separate entities. We honor our connection but take pride in our differences and hope that is recognized by patrons who love visiting us both. In that connection our history lends itself to the mines and a blue collar rough and tumble aesthetic. Thus Wick ‘N Ore was born. Wick is a reference to a candle wick like those in lanterns in the mines that help guide miners through the dark, and much like those lanterns aided in getting miners back home, we hope that our food and hospitality could give you a sense of home and warmth as well. Ore is a nod to something you’d mine: something solid in which metals and valuable minerals can be profitably extracted. This business is our ore, we aim to be a solid piece of the community, offer value to our customers and maintain a bountiful business model to support our lovely staff that help support us. And THAT is why we are Wick ‘N Ore, it upholds our past while spear heading us forward with our ideals. We are looking to the future. While our predecessors focused on the mines, we are hoping to be the place they go after their shift (and maybe a shower haha). That place you take the missus out for a nice evening, gather for community connection, and go to share a fun night out or blow off steam after a long hard day. With our latest renovations we are hoping to offer a sophisticated and cozy atmosphere that coincides with our hearty comfort food and tasty full bodied cocktails. This restaurant strives to give elevated dining circumstances to the common man, we are for the people and by the people. We are a place where every person can gather no matter their race, class or creed and our overarching aim is to give our patrons an experience at every step.
